Daniel Sturridge is likely to lead the line for England tonight - and the Liverpool striker will be hungry for goals against Scotland.

That is the view of the expert panel on the latest edition of LFCTV’s Press Box, who believe Sturridge’s performance when he came off the bench in the Reds’ 6-1 rout of Watford last Sunday bodes well for club and country.

Liverpool’s No.15 was desperately unlucky not to find the net against the Hornets, as he twice struck the crossbar with brilliant left-footed efforts.

But Chris Bascombe, James Pearce and Paul Salt feel Sturridge can have a major impact for England in their World Cup qualifier against Scotland at Wembley this evening.

“I’d imagine he’ll start the game. He could be a player who could benefit from the international break. He did look really sharp at the weekend…and if he starts and gets a couple of goals, it could work in Liverpool’s favour,” said the Daily Telegraph’s Bascombe.

Pearce, of the Liverpool Echo, added: “Like Chris said, he probably will start after a frustrating season for him. I think there’s been some positive signs in the last few weeks, I thought he was excellent against Tottenham in the League Cup. Obviously his wait for a Premier League goal goes on but he couldn’t have done much more when he came off the bench against Watford.”

“He looked so hungry when he came on [against Watford], which was great to see,” said Salt, of BBC Radio Merseyside.

“He’s going to be very, very hungry when he plays for England.”
