Perhaps the most simplistic and yet most important aspect of making it as a footballer is a player's ability with his feet, and Adam Lallana's nimble footwork is a key facet of his game...

“I’ve always worked off both feet for as long as I can remember, really…”

I can remember my dad used to encourage me to practise with my left as well as my right. Now I find myself saying that to my son at the moment when we’re having a kickabout. I’ve always worked on both feet and been renowned for being comfortable with my weaker foot – and that’s always been very useful for me. Maybe I don’t really see it as being such a big thing because I am just used to playing off both feet, although I do feel it is important and do feel it gives me an advantage being able to play off both feet. That said, a lot of professional footballers now are two-footed because the demands of playing for a professional team mean you need to be able to now.

“I’d like to think I’ve always been blessed with quick feet…”

I think I have always had it – I always remember people at school saying I had good feet. I might not have been the quickest or the biggest, but I used to get away with it – ‘He’s got quick feet, he gets out of sticky areas with the ball’. That’s a strength of mine I’ve probably had throughout my career and luckily enough I’ve still got it now.
