On a night that started with Sadio Mane scoring against Liverpool within a minute of kick-off, Origi enjoyed the loudest laugh at St Mary’s in a 6-1 League Cup triumph.
The Belgium international had yet to score for the club since his arrival the previous summer but, having flicked in Alberto Moreno’s drive before half-time, made major amends in the second half.
First he thumped an unstoppable blast into the top corner from the edge of the area and then met Brad Smith’s inviting cross with a well-placed header to claim his third.
