Reds could beat United to Barcelona ace
Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp is keen to sign Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, according to reports in Spain.
Klopp tried to sign his fellow German as manager of Borussia Dortmund before the 23-year-old's move from Borussia Monchengladbach to Barca in 2014.
But Since moving to the Nou Camp, Ter Stegen has struggled to establish himself as club's first-choice stopper.
Despite being No.1 in the Champions League, he remains behind Claudio Bravo in the pecking order for La Liga matches.
And he could be keen to move on as Klopp would be keen to put his faith in him.
If Ter Stegen is to be the man who comes in then the club will have to pay a significant transfer fee.
While the £56.7million release clause in his contract might be a stumbling block, Spanish publication Sport claim Liverpool are keen to do a deal nonetheless.
Manchester United were also linked with a move in the summer as David de Gea was widely expected to be on his way out.
Ter Stegen was seen as the ideal replacement before the Spaniard's move to Real Madrid collapsed.
And they could now lose out to their rivals even if De Gea does leave Old Trafford in the future.
