Jamie Vardy is NOT on Liverpool 's shopping list despite reports they are fighting with Arsenal over the signature of the England international.

The Gunners opened talks with Vardy on Friday after meeting Leicester City's £20million release clause for the player.

A number of Premier League clubs have been sounded out by Vardy's representatives during recent weeks over the potential availability of the 29-year-old, who is said to be seeking a four-year deal worth £120,000 a week.

The release clause, though, only applies to Champions League clubs.

And with Liverpool without European competition next term, it was suggested the Reds were offering Vardy £140,000 a week to tempt him to move to Anfield.

However, the ECHO understands the forward is not among the names currently being pursued by Reds boss Jurgen Klopp and his recruitment team.

Vardy's 24 goals helped fire Leicester to an unexpected Premier League crown last month and earned him a place in the England squad for the forthcoming European Championships.

Arsenal's urgency to complete the transfer is understandable given England boss Roy Hodgson does not want players involved in transfer talks or undergoing medicals after his squad have departed for the finals in France.
