Liverpool have submitted an £11 million bid for Borussia Dortmund's American teenager Christian Pulisic.

However, Jürgen Klopp’s former club are resisting all attempts by their former coach to lure one of the most exciting young talents in Europe to Anfield.

Pulisic, a versatile winger who signed for the German club’s Academy during Klopp’s reign in the Bundesliga, enjoyed an instant impact when promoted to the Dortmund first team last season.

Klopp is desperate to reunite with the youngster and continue his development on Merseyside but it is proving a difficult task convincing his former club to do business.

Dortmund have no wish to sell the 17-year-old and it will take all Liverpool’s power of persuasion to conclude a deal before the end of the transfer window. It seems Klopp is likely to be disappointed despite making an incredible offer that would comfortably make Pulisic the most expensive teenager in Liverpool history.

After impressing Dortmund’s scouts while playing in his native US, Pulisic joined the German club’s under-17 side 18 months ago.

Such is his talent, he has been fast-tracked to the senior squad and was given his debut last February. In nine appearances he contributed two goals – making him the youngest player to score twice in the Bundesliga. This has served only to intensify the excitement around the player, who has made his senior international debut for the US.

The size of Liverpool’s offer would suggest Pulisic is a player Klopp is intent on pursuing, although it remains to be seen if it will be possible to conclude a deal over the coming days.
