Liverpool target staying at Borussia in January, says club official
Liverpool transfer target Mahmoud Dahoud will NOT be allowed to leave Borussia Moenchengladbach in January, according to the German club's sporting director.
The young midfielder has been on the Reds' radar for some time, and speculation has mounted that Jurgen Klopp will renew his efforts to land the player when the window re-opens at the end of next month.
But Max Eberl has appeared to quash any such rumours in emphatic fashion.
"There is a zero per cent chance that Mahmoud will leave in January," Eberl told German magazine Kicker.
"There is no offer for him on the table from any club and we have not had any offers for him in the past either."
Dahoud, Syria-born but an U21 international with Germany, has been in and out of the Gladbach side this season, and has been linked with a move to Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund.
But Eberl says Gladbach would like to offer him a new, improved contract to ward off potential suitors. Dahoud's current deal expires at the end of next season.
"It is the club's desire to extend his contract. We have not opened talks yet, but that will soon happen," Eberl added.
"We will have to consider our options if he only has one year left on his contract next year, but that is pure speculation at this stage."
