Liverpool express interest in Saints full-back
Liverpool have expressed an interest in young Southampton full-back Sam McQueen.
But they are unlikely to pursue a move for the defender until the summer, when he would become a free agent, after failing to agree a new contract with the south coast club.
Should they tempt the 21-year-old at the end of the season, then the Reds would still have to pay a hefty compensation fee, but the club’s scouting team have identified him as a possible target.
The youngster came through the ranks at St Mary's and has forced his way into Claude Puel's first-team plans.
McQueen made his Southampton debut as a teenager and gained experience last season on loan at Southend, featuring 18 times for the Shrimpers.
The defender played twice for the Saints Under-23s in the Checkatrade Trophy earlier this campaign, and his exploits have impressed manager Puel.
