Joel Matip played an hour for Liverpool U23s in a 3-0 win against Ipswich Town on Sunday, a day after making his Premier League comeback in the 3-2 defeat against Swansea City.

Matip, 25, was introduced as a stoppage-time substitute as Liverpool fell to a shock defeat against Swansea.

The defender was part of a strong team at Prenton Park that also included Alberto Moreno, Joe Gomez and Kevin Stewart that won convincingly thanks to goals from Paulo Alves, Rhian Brewster and Ben Woodburn.

Matip had not appeared for Liverpool since early December first because of an ankle injury and subsequently because of uncertainty over his eligibility following his withdrawal from Cameroon's squad for the Africa Cup of Nations.
