Reds target Jese Rodriguez set for move
Paris-Saint Germain forward Jese is on the verge of joining Premier League side Middlesbrough on six-month loan deal, according to reports in France.
Jese, who became a fan favourite at Real Madrid having progressed through the club’s youth system, joined PSG in a €25million deal in the summer but has failed to nail down a regular spot in Emery’s starting XI and has started just once in Ligue 1.
The 23-year-old has been hotly tipped to join Liverpool this month and Miguel Angel Ramirez, the president of Spanish Las Palmas who are also attempting to sign Jese, confirmed Liverpool’s interest in the highly-rated forward.
However, in a surprising development, Jese’s compatriot Aitor Karanka appears to be close to pulling off a major transfer scoop as the PSG man nears a loan move to his Middlesbrough, according to L’Equipe.
Coming close to ending Parc de Princes nightmare this month, Jese didn’t train with PSG on Wednesday as his agent met with Middlesbrough representatives in order to thrash out a deal.
Liverpool were originally unveiled as one of the club’s competing for his signature by Las Palmas’ Ramirez, but it would appear Jurgen Klopp’s attempts tostrengthen his squad for the second phase of the season have fallen short.
"Jese Rodriguez is a great footballer. He wants to come to Las Palmas, but he is owned by PSG and earns a salary that is of his level – and that is very high," he told Las Provincia earlier in the month.
"Liverpool, Milan and Roma want Jese and are ready to pay what he earns. We cannot afford that salary.
"With respect to other clubs, we are at a disadvantage and hence we have to wait. But we don’t want to create false expectations."
