Liverpool are continuing to negotiate with Roma over the transfer of Mohamed Salah, while they are also keeping a close eye on Lazio forward Keita Balde Diao, sources have told ESPN FC.

Salah, 24, is a prime target for Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and talks between the two clubs are ongoing, one source said.

The Times and Daily Mail reported on Friday that Roma had rejected a £28 million bid from Liverpool for the Egypt international.

Salah was close to joining Liverpool from Basel in January 2014, but instead opted to head for Chelsea.

The winger had an unsuccessful stay at Stamford Bridge, making just 19 appearances across two seasons.

He moved to Fiorentina on loan in February 2015 before signing permanently for Roma last summer after a loan spell at the club.

Salah was hugely influential in helping Roma finish as runners-up to Juventus in Serie A this season, scoring 15 league goals in 31 appearances.

Meanwhile, sources have told ESPN FC that Liverpool maintain an interest in Lazio forward Balde.

Liverpool have held a long-standing interest in Balde -- a product of Barcelona's La Masia youth setup -- having sent scouts to monitor his performances in Serie A since 2014.

Sources have said that, while Liverpool are keen on the player, they have made no official approach to Lazio in regards to a transfer.

Juventus and AC Milan are reported to retain an interest in the Senegal international, while other Premier League teams are monitoring the player, one source said.

The 22-year-old's contract at Lazio expires in the summer of 2018 and there are currently no signs he will extend his stay with Simone Inzaghi's side.
