Mohamed Salah closes in on £35m Anfield switch
Mohamed Salah has posed with a Liverpool shirt as he closes in on a £35million return to the Premier League.
The Egyptian has unfinished business in the top flight after a disappointing spell with Chelsea but found his best form with Roma this season, scoring 15 goals and laying on 13 more for his teammates in 31 Serie A outings.
While a £28m bid has already been rejected by Roma, and Liverpool will not be held to ransom, their interest is still active and there is a degree of confidence Salah will make the move.
And Salah posing for a picture alongside two Reds fans holding shirts will only serve to increase speculation.
Twitter user Ahmed Essam posted the snap, adding: "Welcome to @LFC, then the player's Twitter name @22mosalah and the hashtags #LFC #YNWA #JFT96 #LFCAR."
While reports from Italy over the weekend suggested an agreement was imminent, a fee has yet to be agreed with no talks having taken place since last week.
Roma are holding out for a fee that would see the Anfield side smash their club record of £35m paid to Newcastle United for Andy Carroll in 2011.
Liverpool, though, are refusing to pay over the odds for the 24-year-old, and are considering alternative players should a deal not materialise.
Roma president Jim Pallotta addressed Liverpool's interest in the player earlier this week when saying there was “nothing in it at the moment”.
Salah turned down the chance of a move to Liverpool in 2014 while at Basel and instead joined Chelsea.
The Reds stepped up attempts to sign Salah when it emerged Julian Brandt was not keen on a move to Anfield from Bayer Leverkusen due to fears over a lack of playing time.
