Reds still remain hopeful over Salah deal
Liverpool have reportedly not ended their pursuit of Mohamed Salah - who is still considered the Reds’ No1 attacking target.
The Roma winger is seen as an ideal solution at Anfield to bolster the side going forward.
His goals, creativity and pace has Liverpool very interested, with a first bid worth £28million having already been rejected.
A move appeared to be close last week but progress over a deal has since stalled between Roma and Liverpool.
Gelson Martins of Sporting Lisbon has now emerged as an alternative target, with the Reds having opened preliminary talks.
However, he is still behind Salah in Jurgen Klopp’s wishlist, according to the Mirror, with the Liverpool boss desperate to add the former Chelsea man to his ranks.
Roma are said to be standing firm over their £42m valuation, but the Merseyside outfit remain hopeful of thrashing out a deal.
The Italian club do not want to sell, with Salah having shone in Serie A last season with an impressive 19 goals.
Earlier this week, Roma president Jim Pallotta said: “There’s nothing in it at the moment.
“We continue to receive offers for many of our players and if we were to listen to all of them, we’d lose three quarters of the squad. Now we’ll see what to do.”
But the Mirror add Liverpool are continuing their charge and consider Martins as only a back-up option in case a transfer for Salah completely collapses.
