Saturday night: Four classic games on LFCTV's Retro Reds
Episode four of Retro Reds: The Golden Hour will bring you highlights of four more classic Liverpool matches from 10.30pm BST on LFCTV tonight.
With Premier League football currently suspended, each weekend we are digging into the archives and picking out footage of memorable encounters from the 1960s, ‘70s and ‘80s that you may not have seen before.
The latest instalment features a quartet of First Division clashes more than worthy of another look – and you can tune in at 10.30pm.
Here’s a flavour of what’s coming up on Retro Reds: The Golden Hour…
Manchester City (A) – April 10, 1982
On Easter Saturday 1982, Liverpool travelled to Maine Road with the league title in their sights once again. Stung by a humiliating home defeat against City earlier that season, Bob Paisley’s ruthless Reds would show the hosts no mercy.
Manchester United (H) – February 25, 1978
As Liverpool’s opponents in this game found to their cost, it didn’t take Graeme Souness long to make his mark at Anfield. On what was only his second home appearance for the club he stole the show with a spectacular strike in a memorable win.
Everton (A) – December 6, 1969
The last Merseyside derby of the sixties is one that has never been forgotten. Everton would end the season as champions while the Reds were in the midst of transition. Mention the name Sandy Brown and those of a certain vintage will know the outcome.
Nottingham Forest (H) – April 13, 1988
This was Liverpool’s class of 1987-88 at their scintillating best – a performance described by the legendary Tom Finney as one of the finest exhibitions he’d ever seen. Few would disagree. Five goals without reply and it could have been more.
