Alison Becker interview | Meet the US actor pretending to be LFC's goalkeeper
Alison Becker's mentions on Twitter have repeatedly blown up in the 16 months since Liverpool acquired a certain Brazilian goalkeeper.
Simple cases of mistaken identity and opportunistic jokes have seen the American actor become an internet sensation among Reds.
Now, there's simply no need for the Parks and Recreation star to check up on her namesake's performances for Jürgen Klopp's side. Instead, she lets her notifications do just that.
It all began when thousands skimmed and fell for a Tweet posted in the period when fans were anxiously waiting for the club to announce the signing of Alisson Becker, the footballer.
From that moment on, a relationship between Alison and the last community she expected to be welcomed into has blossomed.
"The LFC fans have just been so embracing and absolutely lovely," she tells Liverpoolfc.com over the phone from Los Angeles.
"I first found that we shared a name before he joined Liverpool, just because I'm a human being and I Google myself!
"When he joined Liverpool, I kind of wrote out a joke Tweet before he made it official and the response was just shocking to me.
"I think the reason it got picked up is because - even though I'm definitely not as famous as he is, I'm an actor here and have the verified blue checkmark on Twitter - people just skimming and seeing the checkmark on Twitter must have assumed I was him. That was when it really blew up in a great way."
At Liverpool, Alisson has produced save after save and won award after award, meaning material Alison can use hasn't been short in supply.
"At first the jokes were just off the cuff and I was ad-libbing," she states. "Once I started learning all these terms like 'clean sheets’ and 'between the sticks', now I feel like I can plan out my Tweets a little more.
"Everyone has just been so incredible. I'm an actor and I'm also a director. I just did a music video and I put it out to Liverpool fans like, 'Hey, if you want to know what I do in my life, I just directed this video'.
"All the comments now under the video on YouTube are just 'YNWA'. The musician who made the video, she's like, 'Who are all these people? What does YNWA mean?' I'm like, 'Well, that's a funny story'.
"I've always liked soccer but I've never been a huge football fan. Now I find myself really along for the ride."
However, separated by just a single letter, some users still direct their messages to the wrong Becker.
"Many did mistake me at first and many still do," she admits. "After a game I'll get a lot of Tweets.
"Some of them I can tell are in on the joke and some of them will just lay into me about how well they well think I did.
"If anyone is in on the joke I love it. But if anyone comes at me with criticism, I'll just come back with something like, 'Well, at least I can tell the difference between a male goalkeeper and female comedian!'"
Alison received a Liverpool goalkeeper jersey signed by the No.1 himself in the summer. It now takes pride of place up on a wall at her Californian home.
Despite playing football as a child, there were no plans for her to put it on and see if she made a good physical impersonator.
She concludes: "Some people who come into my home and are familiar with the sport are like, 'Oh my God, where did you get that?' Other people are just like, 'Why is your name on that jersey?'
"I haven't played soccer since I was probably 12 or 13, so it's been quite some time. And I never played goalkeeper.
"So watching his skill is just so far outside what I could do. But then again, I don't know how he would do in an audition in Hollywood!"
