Owen: Lallana can be integral to England's Euro hopes
Michael Owen believes the display of Adam Lallana in England’s opening game of Euro 2016 with Russia offered highly encouraging signs for the rest of the tournament.
Liverpool’s No.20 was a lively figure for the Three Lions during Saturday’s 1-1 draw and came close to scoring on several occasions.
And former Reds star Owen admits he is a fan of Lallana’s style of play and highlighted him as an influential player for Roy Hodgson’s side in the France finals.
“I thought Lallana played particularly well against Russia and I thought England as a whole played brilliantly,” Owen told Liverpoolfc.com.
“It was probably the most I’ve enjoyed watching England for a long time. I thought they were brilliant and Lallana was integral to that.
“Out of possession he was the catalyst in squeezing play, pressing, closing down and winning the ball back, and if he didn’t win the ball then he set it up for his teammates to do so.
“His touch in close and tight situations was brilliant and he showed great feet, and as a whole I thought he played really well.”
Lallana and England are back in action on Thursday when they face Wales.
