Adam Lallana achieved a dream by opening his England account with a 95th-minute winner in the World Cup qualifier against Slovakia.

The Liverpool midfielder was an impressive performer for the Three Lions in Trnava and had previously seen an effort cannon back off the post.

His perseverance paid off deep into stoppage-time in the Group F clash, though, as a neat turn and low shot squeezed past the goalkeeper and over the line.

Lallana’s strike secured a 1-0 result in Sam Allardyce’s first game in charge and provided the 28-year-old with a long-awaited moment for his country.

“When you score in the last few seconds, it is a good feeling,” the Reds man told FATV after the match.

“I had one in the Premier League last year against Norwich which was also nice.

“But the most important thing was getting three points and getting off to a good start under the new regime. We have had a good week and all the hard work has paid dividends.”

He added: “Anyone will tell you it’s a dream to score for your country.

“Especially with rattling one off the post a little bit before, it was a great feeling. But the main thing was the three points, definitely.”
