Arsenal had already wrapped up the Premier League title by the time Blackburn Rovers visited Anfield in May 2002, but Liverpool were still embroiled in a battle with Manchester United for second place.

Goals from Danny Murphy and Nicolas Anelka sandwiched Damien Duff's equaliser in the first half, before Andy Cole drew Graeme Souness' Rovers level again shortly after the break.

Sami Hyypia quickly edged Liverpool back into the lead, but Matt Jansen's 80th-minute strike appeared to have earned Blackburn a draw that would have kept United one point above the Reds going into the final day of the season.

Heskey, though, had other ideas.

With five minutes left, the striker rolled his marker with consummate ease before latching onto Jamie Carragher's infield pass and calmly finishing low across Alan Kelly.
