Klopp to make changes for Burton EFL Cup tie
Jürgen Klopp is set to ring the changes for Liverpool’s EFL Cup tie at Burton Albion.
The Reds make their first trip to the Pirelli Stadium on Tuesday night for the second round clash, against Nigel Clough’s newly-promoted Championship side.
Joel Matip is expected to make his competitive debut for the Reds having been on the bench for their opening two Premier League fixtures, while Marko Grujic is likely to get his first start in midfield.
Divock Origi should also start, as will Emre Can if he can shake off a back complaint, while the likes of Danny Ings and Lazar Markovic will hope to feature, having not done so as of yet this season.
Youngsters such as Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ben Woodburn will also be considered as part of the squad.
Klopp was left disappointed by Liverpool’s 2-0 defeat at Burnley on Saturday, despite claiming he saw “a lot of good things” in the Reds’ performance.
Their next Premier League fixture is away to Tottenham on Saturday, after which comes a two-week international break.
Klopp is without the injured Loris Karius, Mamadou Sakho and Joe Gomez, but Lucas Leiva returned to training at Melwood last week, while Sadio Mane’s shoulder injury will be assessed further this week. The Senegalese forward is unlikely to be risked at Burton in any case.
