Fabinho, full name Fabio Henrique Tavares, is a versatile player who usually operates in midfield but is comfortable in defence, too.

Following a transfer from AS Monaco in May 2018, the Brazil international has become a cornerstone of Jürgen Klopp’s side, helping the Reds to win all major trophies on offer.

Klopp preached patience when it came to Fabinho’s adaptation to English football after five campaigns in Ligue 1.

He had to bide his time for a chance to stake his claim for a sustained run in Liverpool’s XI but, having made a breakthrough of sorts in October 2018, the man assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders has described as the team’s ‘lighthouse’ did not look back.

Fabinho’s debut season on Merseyside ended with 41 appearances to his name and a Champions League winner’s medal after he played in the final against Tottenham Hotspur.

After beginning 2019-20 in formidable form, an ankle injury sustained in November forced him to be ruled out until the New Year. But Fabinho returned to help the Reds add the Premier League title to the Super Cup and Club World Cup silverware earned before Christmas.

The following campaign saw the No.3 deputise regularly at centre-back due to injuries, before returning to his usual role to aid the team’s push towards a third-place finish in the league.

In 2021-22, he kicked off a memorable campaign by signing a new long-term contract and ended with Carabao Cup and FA Cup honours – his highlight being a stunning Panenka-style penalty in the successful shootout over Chelsea in the League Cup final.
